Non-conforming Interface Conditions for the Second-Order Wave Equation

چکیده

Abstract Imposition methods of interface conditions for the second-order wave equation with non-conforming grids is considered. The spatial discretization based on high order finite differences summation-by-parts properties. Previously presented solution this problem, simultaneous approximation term (SAT) method, have shown to introduce significant stiffness. This can lead highly inefficient schemes. Here, two new imposing avoid stiffness problems are presented: (1) a projection method and (2) hybrid between SAT method. Numerical experiments performed using traditional order-preserving interpolation operators. Both novel retain accuracy convergence behavior previously developed but significantly less stiff.

Time and space adaptivity for the second-order wave equation

The aim of this paper is to show that, for a linear second-order hyperbolic equation discretized by the backward Euler scheme in time and continuous piecewise linear finite elements in space, the adaptation of the time steps can be combined with spatial mesh adaptivity in an optimal way. We derive a priori and a posteriori error estimates which admit, as much as it is possible, the decoupling o...

Spectral methods for the wave equation in second-order form

Current spectral simulations of Einstein’s equations require writing the equations in first-order form, potentially introducing instabilities and inefficiencies. We present a new penalty method for pseudospectral evolutions of second order in space wave equations. The penalties are constructed as functions of Legendre polynomials and are added to the equations of motion everywhere, not only on ...

Upwind schemes for the wave equation in second-order form

We develop new high-order accurate upwind schemes for the wave equation in second-order form. These schemes are developed directly for the equations in second-order form, as opposed to transforming the equations to a first-order hyperbolic system. The schemes are based on the solution to a local Riemann-type problem that uses d’Alembert’s exact solution. We construct conservative finite differe...
